1. Mechanism of Action
Caverta 100 mg contains sildenafil citrate, a selective inhibitor of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). It enhances the natural erectile response by increasing cyclic GMP levels in the corpus cavernosum during sexual stimulation, resulting in smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis.
2. Indications
- Treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence) in adult males
- May be prescribed off-label for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)
3. Dosage and Administration
- Recommended Dose: 100 mg taken orally as needed
- Timing: 30 to 60 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity
- Maximum Frequency: One dose in a 24-hour period
- Administration: Can be taken with or without food; high-fat meals may delay onset
Note: Sexual stimulation is required for the medication to be effective.
